    OVERVIEW Heidenhain EQN 1325 823901-03 Absolute Rotary Encoder The working principle of HEIDENHAIN encoders is based on photoelectric scanning or magnetoelectric scanning technology. Angular or linear displacements are converted into electrical signals by reading the engraved lines on the code disc by means of a photoelectric transmitting and receiving device, or by scanning the engraved lines on the magnetic grid drum with a magnetoresistive sensor. These electrical signals can be processed to represent the magnitude and direction of the displacement, enabling accurate measurement of parameters such as position and velocity.     CLASSIFICATION HEIDENHAIN encoders are divided into two categories: incremental encoders and absolute encoders. Incremental encoders convert displacements into periodic electrical signals and count pulses to indicate the magnitude of the displacement. Absolute encoders, on the other hand, correspond to a defined digital code for each position, so their values are only relevant to the start and end positions of the measurement, and not to the intermediate process of the measurement.
